Hunger Games opinion

If you don't want the movie to be spoiled or the book don't read this..
Hunger Games

I really liked book one. It was written well and started the story off perfectly. The detail that they went into for the part of the story before the games was surprising but in a good way. I fell like a lot of times in books that are set in another culture or time the author or director doesn't spend enough time establishing that world. In Hunger Games you get a very good idea of what kind of world they are living one. A harsh one that takes these kids from their families and kills them. The capital loves it and treats it like we treat the olympics.

Because of the way the book was written (through the thoughts of Katniss) the death of Katniss wasn't an option. It never felt like it might of happened because there would be no way for the story to continue. If I were to write it, 1. the quality would suck and would be just terrible 2. I would have done it where you could see the games through other peoples eyes. But in the way that it was written you get to read a lot of good fanfiction.

I liked everything about it..

Now the movie..

Some people hate the movie because they changed things. but they didn't. The things that were changed were okay to me and I wasn't sad about any of them. I have had a couple arguments over the fact that they changed things like how Katniss got the pin. In the movie She got it from the mayors daughter. It really wasn't important to me. One other thing she was really angry about was that Peeta didn't get his leg cut off. It wasn't that important either. So I got very angry about this topic because she refuses to watch the movie at all because of all these things. And I keep telling her

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, the movie was fantastic. The Cinematography and the music and the set design and the casting was fantastic. Everyone did their job perfectly. "

The death of Rue was brilliant and I loved how they put in an uprising in her district when she died. It added a lot of power to the death. In the book Katniss talked about how it would be a controversy. That you weren't supposed to have a sad death in the games. This sent the message about how they had been desensitised about the games and how terrible this is
If you haven't read the rest of the books you might not want to read ahead

. That also was a genius idea because then it wont make the uprising in the next two books seem cohesive so it doesn't feel like, "Oh this is doing well. I better write another book with another plot so that people will buy my book"

In the movie its a sense of the storm that's coming. That soon the capital isn't going to have power over these people. I also enjoyed the parts they put in with Snow. Even though this doesn't happen in the books or anything it helps give people who haven't read the book see how terrible he is. It creates this tension and brings up the motif's that are much more prominent in the book about hope..

You can come back now...

I loved the book and the movie and they were everything I could hope for. And I stand my statement that this is going to be a big moment in literature and movies. To me this movie is like Star Wars was when it first came out. No one has really done this type of a movie. It isn't something that people like to watch really. It will be a turning page in media and I love the way that it brings up great messages about our culture and how much we rely on it.
